The wheel does not spin, but rather is touch-sensitive. |
3rd Generation or "Dock Connector" | ![]() |
Most readily identified by the four buttons along the top. This is called the "Dock Connector" iPod because it was the first to replace its FireWire connection port with a port for the dock connector on the bottom that has continued ever since. |
4th Generation or "Click Wheel" | ![]() |
This model has a single wheel, with all buttons on or inside of the while. The wheel is touch-sensitive, and does not spin. |
4th Generation Photo | ![]() |
Physically indistinguishable from the original 4th generation click wheel, except that its display appears in color. |
5th Generation iPods ("Video") | Looks like the 4th generation, but with a much larger display, and capable of playing videos. |
